11 things you should know about macOS Sierra

Just a few hours until Apple's servers begin to release the new version of the operating system for Mac computers, baptized with the name macOS Sierra following the nomenclature of the mountains of Yosemite National Park in the United States. Although as we could see in the WWDC 2016 keynote, it seems that this new version does not bring us many changes, as if it has happened with iOS 10, what has improved a lot is the operation and performance that this version offers on less computers powerful. If your computer is about to be left out of the list of compatible Macs, the best thing you can do is change the hard drive for an SSD, you will see how it comes back to life and looks like a new Mac (saving the distance).

After having been testing the different betas that the guys from Cupertino have been launching on the market, we show you 11 things every Mac user should know about macOS Sierra.

  1. The last update that Apple released of the Golden Master version will be practically the same as the version that will be released in a few hours, so we will not have to download it and perform an installation from scratch.
  2. MacOS Sierra it's completely free and is compatible with any Mac from 2010 and MacBooks and iMacs from 2009.
  3. Finely Siri finally comes to the Mac, as Cortana did last year with Windows 10. To call it, we will have to click on the dedicated Siri button in the top menu bar or on the dock icon through a keyboard shortcut, because it will not be listening to us all the time.
  4. In combination with iOS 10, macOS Sierra offers us a universal clipboard so that if we copy a piece of text on the Mac we can paste it on the iPhone or iPad and vice versa.
  5. We can unlock the Mac thanks to the Apple Watch, a feature that is limited to the latest Macs with bluetooth version 4.0 or higher.
  6. The Picture in Picture feature that came to iPad with the arrival of iOS 9, will also be available on macOS Sierra, so that we can extract the video from any website and place it anywhere on the screen.
  7. The Finder has also received some news such as automatic trash emptying after 30 days and an option to put folders in the first position when we sort them by name.
  8. If we have enough space in iCloud, automatically all the content that we have stored on our desktop will be uploaded to iCloud, to be able to access that content from any other device.
  9. The Memories feature in the Photos app is able to recognize both people and objects both in photos and videos.
  10. Navigation tabs have become commonplace in most native applications: Mail, Maps, Notes ... so that we can have several tabs open with different information and close them according to our needs.
  11. The new APFS feature that offers greater security and speed in file control it won't come until next year.
