Today just a week ago that Apple unveiled the new generation of MacBook Pro, completely renovated laptops that offer a level of update as we have not seen for years. A slimmer and lighter design, a new flat keyboard, the introduction of touch Bar and Touch ID….
Despite all this, surely there are some users for whom the renovation is not as spectacular as it is said. Today we will see until 2016 radical changes the MacBook Pro has undergone in its XNUMX refresh. Well, more than changes, disappearances, some of which you will not like too much, especially because they require going shopping and scratching your pocket even more.
The ones you won't see anymore with the new 2016 MacBook Pro
It is undeniable that the new MacBook Pro has embraced the design introduced by the 12 ″ MacBook launched in spring 2015, but there is no denying that it has introduced truly advanced technologies into a notebook such as the Touch Bar or its integration with the Touch ID. Like the 12 ″ MacBook, the 2016 MacBook Pro has also followed the path of "removing stuff," which we'll take a look at next.
Goodbye to the illuminated logo
Although this is not a feature, and should not be decisive when buying or not buying a new MacBook Pro, it does represent a twist, since it was something already traditional at Apple. First it was in the 12 ″ MacBook, now in the MacBook Pro. We already know who will be next, right? If he can survive. If there is any reason, beyond the simple cosmetic change, that justifies the disappearance of the illuminated logo, it is probably the desire to achieve a slimmer device.
MagSafe
Another classic that disappears and, from my point of view, the one that hurts the most. I think we all loved the MagSafe; it was enough to bring it closer and put it! Connect! But best of all is that being magnetized and not inserted, if you tripped over the cable, it would detach from the MacBook, and the computer would not move.
Now we find 2 or 4 ports (depending on the model) Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C connector. Yes! They are much more useful, allow data transfer and simultaneous loading, etc., but they have lost that security component that we liked so much.
Charging cable extension
Now only the USB-C cable with a two meter extension is included. None of that "extension cord" that came in the box of previous MacBook Pro (and other models) and that was so useful when when you wanted to use your equipment just as far as possible from the socket. Now you will have to be closer to the wall.
Start-up sound
With us since 1980, the classic Mac startup sound has been replaced on the 2016 MacBook Pro by absolute silence. Luckily our colleague Javier Porcar explains to us how to reactivate it.
HDMI connection
If you are one of those who usually connect the MacBook to the TV or monitor with an HDMI cable, say goodbye. The HDMI port has disappeared from the 2016 MacBook Pro which means they will need to use the Thunderbolt 3 port in conjunction with a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to achieve HDMI compatibility. Long live the adapters!
USB connections
The standard USB port has been replaced by Thunderbolt 3. If you have USB devices you can still connect them to the MacBook Pro, do you know through what? Indeed, another wonderful USB-C to USB-A adapter. A true orgy of happiness is taking place in the Chinese adapter factories. But wait, there is still more.
SD card slot
When you order the previous adapters, don't forget another one, an SD card reader with USB-C connector. And incidentally, a pocket to carry both adapter. And before you ask me who used this, I'll tell you: photographers, for example.
Plastic hinge
This is clearly an improvement because the old plastic hinge has been replaced with one in keeping with the MacBook color. Much better, yes sir.
I'm seeing it coming: whoever buys one of these new Mac Pro's will give money to whoever exchanges it for one from 2014 !!!
The digital audio output, the optical, is not there!
Good post!
I am super happy with my MacBook Pro retina 15 ″ from 2015!
