Yesterday afternoon the firefighters of the town of Mesa, Arizona, received a warning directly from the Apple facilities by the company GT Advanced Technologies, commissioned to manufacture the synthetic sapphire crystal for iPhone and Apple Watch, which had been involved in a fire on the roof of the building.
Let's remember that this company signed an agreement with Apple to manufacture the already so famous and commented sapphire crystal, whereby Apple purchased the entire facility and obtained GTAT's services for the production of the sapphire crystal.
However, after a series of bad decisions, he could not face the necessary level of production that Apple demanded and declared bankruptcy, for which he had to close two whole plants. Now under Apple's mandate, the company declared that it would be partly intended as a center of operations.
Since the building is currently not in use, it is unlikely that anyone was inside. Everything indicates that the fire started in the solar panels on the roof of the building on a pipeline without affecting the interior from the building itself, authorities said.
Fire crews from both Mesa and Gilbert worked together to extinguish the fire in approximately 35 minutes. About 50 employees had to be evacuated and there were no reports of injuries. As I had mentioned, future plans for the Apple facility is to use the building as a data processing plant.
For now the cause of the fire is under investigation to determine if it was caused or fortuitous.
