Apple has given an important update on your maps in iOS 9, OS X El Capitan, and watchOS 2 with the addition of forms of transit in some cities. The latest update includes the public transportation in Boston, and even more interesting, the be able to select train routes from Amtrak in the Northeast US You can check these new routes on Apple Maps right now. It searches for addresses within the city of Boston, and now lets you choose several options, including buses and five subway lines de la ciudad.
The addition of regional trains, however, is more impressive. Maps now includes timetables for most lines from Amtrak in the northeast. Supported routes include the Northeast Regional, Acela Express, Keystone, Lake Shore Limited, Pennsylvanian, and Maple Leaf routes.
It seems that all full lines not yet available. At least one of the cities has to have train transit available there, but apparently the information cannot always be obtained. For example, you cannot get any rail results to travel between Albany and Pittsburgh, but you could pull a train route between Pittsburgh and Boston.
This expansion is part of Apple's plan to acquire third-party navigation applications such as Google Maps, which has its own extensive traffic data, and recently announced plans to map out, and provide alerts for every railroad crossing in the US. Apple is catching up, but it takes a lot of effort to have in its 'Maps' application all the features we want, and even more difficult to have them for all places.
