Apple has launched a replacement program for select iMac models with 3TB hard drives. For this reason if you bought a 27-inch iMac with a 3TB hard drive between December 2012 and September 2013, you could enter into the group of users with a defective disk unit that can be replaced by another free of charge.

If you have been unlucky enough to be one of those affected, you can request the replacement service through three different ways: Make an appointment at the Genius Bar in an Apple Store, find an Apple Authorized Service Center to replace your hard drive, or contact Apple directly for alternative options.

First of all, the first thing we have to check is the serial number of our iMac and see if it is indeed among the equipment with defective units, to do this simply we will click on this link to enter the Apple Replacement Program page and enter the serial number. To find out our serial number we will click on top left under > About This Mac and we will copy the serial number.

Still Apple has stated that there is a very small number of 3TB hard drives used in 27-inch iMac can fail under certain conditionsie not all iMac sold between December 2012 and September 2013 will be eligible for a free disc replacement.

Once verified that we are within the replacement program, we will have to make backup copies of the data using Time Machine or an external disk before sending it to the SAT, anyway Apple is reimbursing the amount of any hard drive of 3 Tb that has been previously replaced by a random failure as long as the equipment is affected by said failure within the replacement program, that is, if you previously changed the disk due to a failure ... Apple pays for it.

Hard drive replacement program expires on December 19, 2015 or three years after the date of sale

What to change to WD brand hard drives. Seagates, barracuda fail a lot. I also had to change my 27 ″ imac from mid-2009. One week on the App Store. How funny Apple.
