Apple canceled the premiere of the Banker over a history of sexual abuse

The Banker

A few days ago, we informed you of thecancellation of the official premiere of Apple's first film, The Banker, a movie with which Apple intended to opt for the Oscars of the Hollywood Academy, so it had to be released in theaters before the end of the year (premiere scheduled for December 6).

Prior to its theatrical release, The Banker was scheduled for the AFI Fest closing event, however at the last minute Apple decided to announce that canceled the premiere due to the information that had been published about the son of one of the protagonists of the film.

The problem comes through the different accusations of sexual misconduct by the protagonist's son, Bernard Garrett Jr, a role played by Anthony Mackie. The reason Apple has been forced to cancel the premiere is that Garrett Jr. is one of the film's co-producers.

The film does place when Garrett Sr. (played by Samuel L. Jackson) was married to his first wife, and not to the second wife (with whom he was actually married at the time the story is set) and with whom he had two daughters and of whom his son Garrett Jr. sexually abused according to one of the victims, Cynthia Garrett

As we can read in The Hollywood Reporter, Cynthia affirms that sexual abuse began in the early 70s, when Garrett Jr. got out of jail and without his father's knowledge at any time.

The first step that Apple has taken is remove Garrett's son's name from credit titles accused of sexually abusing his sisters. If this film will finally see the light, it is something that today we cannot know, and that a priori seems very complicated, since eliminating the figure of the son from the film would leave the film lame and meaningless.
