Apple found guilty of infringing CalTech patents

Apple and Broadcom have been found guilty of using Wi-Fi wireless technology created by the California Institute of Technology, better known as Caltech, without first reaching a patent use agreement. The verdict forces them to pay 1.100 million, 838.8 million to Apple and the rest to Broadcom.

The case dates back to 2016, when Caltech sued both companies for using their Wi-Fi technology on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, old AirPort and Macs and became the biggest sex patent case of all time on the technological field. As expected, both Apple like Broadcom has expressed the decision to appeal.

The jury has not taken into account that Apple only used Broadcom chips, who should have reached a patent agreement, if that was the case, with Caltech, if that was the case. Nevertheless, the jury has found Apple just as guilty for using that technology. Attorneys for both companies have denied any wrongdoing, stating that Caltech is not entitled to significant damages.

The California Institute of Technology, through its spokesperson, affirms that it is happy with the decision since this institution is committed to protecting its intellectual property, which allows it expand human knowledge and benefit society through integrated research in education.

In recent years, Apple and Microsoft have faced a large number of lawsuits from companies that have been bought by other organizations for the sole purpose of sue the biggest and get a significant source of money.

These companies, called patent trolls, their days are numbered due to the pressure that the big companies are putting on the country's government, they no longer investigate and develop technology, they only take advantage of companies with patents that are about to close to buy them and sue later.
