Apple wins patents related to Touch-ID from biometric firm Privaris

Touch-ID

Apple has been working to acquire the patent rights of the biometric security company based in Virginia in Charlottesville, called Privaris, as reported by CNN. Privaris has recently transferred 26 of his 31 patents to Apple, including 4 patents in December 2012 and a dozens more in october 2014.

The patents are mainly related to fingerprints, applied to a touch screen that could lead to improve the Touch-ID of future devices. Last February, the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, told investors that the next iPhone will have a Improved Touch-ID with reduced errors.

For example, a Privaris patent covers the ability to use a touch screen reader and fingerprint reader at the same time. Another Privaris patent will allow open a door with your iPhone by scanning your fingerprint, similar to payments of Apple Pay.

As for the company 'Privaris', there are rumors that Apple acquired this company sometime in the past year. However, there is no indication that this is the case. Privaris executives haven't changed their profiles to show new positions at Apple, and neither has the biometric firm's website been updated since 2010. More than likely, Privaris wants to get out of this business and Apple is working to acquire its patent portfolio.

In February of this year, as I mentioned before, a report provided by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, in which he stated that Apple would introduce a even more advanced Touch-ID sensor  in the near future, and these patent acquisitions could help make that happen.
