If you use the optical audio output, you have Snow Leopard and you installed version 10.6.8 recently, you are among the people who may have suffered problems with the sound on their Mac, something that many people have complained about as you can see in The capture.
The solution is a bit sloppy but today there is no other:
- Go to / Macintosh HD / System / Library / Extensions
- Open Time Machine and go back to any day before installing 10.6.8
- Find the file "appleHDA.kext" and restore
With this and a reboot it should be fixed, in the absence of a better solution Apple.

I have SL with 10.6.8 and I have a Logitech Z5500 for fiber optics and I have not had any type of problem. It is probably an isolated problem, although it is also true that I always install the combo and not Update them.
Let's see Luis, surely you don't have the digital audio output configured in the player software. All the people I know who have their mac connected to an amplifier and use the digital output get this error. By the way, with Lion it also happens.
Thanks for the solution, a 10, it works perfect! Thank you!!
What if I don't have Time Machine configured? I am new to the MAC world and installed the update and ran out of audio. Is there any solution?
Thank you
I have a macbook Air 10.6.8 and I try to install it in system preferences> speech> text to speech ... I try to read all the texts in Spanish but I do not get the configuration to choose a Spanish voice, I only get English speaking voices … What I can do…. ??????
