Carrefour already allows us to pay with Apple Pay at any establishment that accepts contactless

Carrefour and Apple Pay

After a wait that has lasted more than two years, Spanish users we started using Apple Pay earlier this month. The downside is that, as it is not one of the most important countries for the company led by Tim Cook, it is expected that its expansion will not be so rapid. At first we will only be able to use Apple's mobile payment service with three financial companies (Banco Santander, American Express and Edenred) and the first non-financial company to include support, Carrefour, with your card.

The card is called Carrefour PASS and the best thing about this card is that we can use it in any establishment that have a system compatible with contactless payments. In this way, we can now use the Carrefour PASS card with Apple Pay in more than 100 stores throughout the country, taking advantage of all Carrefour discounts and promotions, or in any establishment that accepts contactless payments no matter in which bank we have saved our money.

Carrefour Pass is compatible with the systems contactless

If you are a bit confused and do not know why it is so important or interesting that we can use Apple's payment service, there are several reasons:

  • Safety: Although we think that it will be just the opposite, paying with Apple Pay is safer than doing it with a physical card. On the one hand, in order to pay with the Cupertino mobile payment service we have to verify our identity using Touch ID. On the other hand, each transaction makes use of an encrypted key or token that expires once we have used it. This token gives all the necessary information so that the payment can be made, but in that information there is not a single one of our personal data.
  • Simplicity: Paying with Apple Pay is as simple as taking out your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, pressing the start button twice (the side on the watch) with the device locked and, without lifting your finger from Touch ID, bringing the iPhone, iPad closer to each other. or Apple Watch to the charging device.
  • Speed: I have put this point the third because some users will not agree, but I think it is faster to take the mobile out of our pocket, put the finger on the Touch ID and bring it closer to the charging device than to take out the wallet, take the card, hand it in, pass it through the device, in some cases have to sign, put the card back in the wallet and the wallet in the pocket.

Apple Pay

If you are thinking that paying with the Apple Watch is not safe because it does not have Touch ID, you are wrong: if we remove the watch from our wrist, the only thing we can do with it is to know the time; everything stops working, among which is Apple Pay. Once we put on the Apple Watch and unlock it by being linked to our iPhone, Apple Pay works again.

We can pay with Apple Pay + Carrefour Pass from the new MacBook Pro

What is perhaps most interesting about all this for readers of Soy de Mac is that we can use the Apple Pay + Carrefour PASS combo from the new MacBook Pro. Apple's latest professional laptop has arrived with Touch ID, which will allow us to identify ourselves in different ways and use Apple Pay on the web, which is a system similar to PayPal but more modern: when we see an item that we can buy using Apple Pay We will only have to select this payment method and identify ourselves by putting the fingerprint on the Touch ID. If we do not have a MacBook Pro of the most current and we do have a Mac from 2012 onwards, we can also use Apple Pay on the web, but we will have to verify ourselves using the Touch ID of our iPhone or iPad.

The good thing about this is that we can add an account or card from any bank in the country, which means that we can pay with Apple Pay at any compatible establishment from now on thanks to the Carrefour PASS card without depending on a specific bank. If you don't want to wait and despair until Apple Pay includes support for your bank, Carrefour could be the answer to your prayers.

      Hello Fernando.
I have made payments of much more than that amount, what it has is that for payments of more than € 20 it asks for the pin.
      All the best
