Dell introduces 40-inch monitor with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity for Mac

Dell monitor

There is a saying that goes: "the big donkey, whether it walks or not." The fashion for large televisions has also reached computer screens. Today there are many users who work with a computer and a pair of monitors, next to each other.

To avoid this, Dell has just introduced an ultra-wide screen monitor, 40 inches. Of course, a much better option than having two independent screens, with the inconvenience that this results. So if you want a "big donkey" for your Mac, this is a good option.

The firm Dell has just presented this week a series of new monitors, and there is one in particular very interesting for Mac users: the Curved Monitor UltraSharp 40 WUHD.

Recipient of the CES 2021 Innovation Award, the UltraSharp 40 or «U4021QW»Is the world's first 40-inch ultra-wide curved monitor with a resolution of 5120 × 2160, also known as 5K2K or WUHD.

This format is not a true 5K resolution. It has a pixel density of 140 PPI, which is equivalent to a 4-inch 32K screen, but with 33% more viewing space.

With a 21: 9 aspect ratio, the UltraSharp 40 is ideal for users who want a lot of screen real estate on the same monitor, but without compromising on resolution. Along with the 34 5K2K 2018-inch ultra-wide monitor, the UltraSharp 40 is one of the only ultra-wide monitors with similar quality to Retina displays, most having a lower QHD resolution of 2560x1440.

With Thunderbolt 3 connection

Incorporates a port Thunderbolt 3 which allows the UltraSharp 40 to connect to a compatible Mac with a single cable. The monitor can power a MacBook Pro with up to 90W charging.

It also includes two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, three 10Gbps USB-A ports, one USB Type-B port, one Ethernet port, and a 3,5mm headphone / audio jack on the back of the monitor, plus a 15W USB-C port and another 10Gbps USB-A port on the bottom of the monitor for quick access. Almost nothing.

Dell specifies that the maximum brightness is relatively low, at 300 nits. It features a fast 5ms response time, 60Hz refresh rate, 2500R curvature, built-in KVM functionality, and built-in 9W speakers. The UltraSharp 40 will be available from January 28, with prices starting at around 2.000 Euros.
