Why I decided not to buy the iPhone 7

Apple Keynote: what they haven't told us

It's been a couple of weeks since Apple introduced the new generation of its flagship, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Since then, or rather since it hit the stores a week later, we have been able to touch it and feel it in our hands. It was the litmus test that would determine whether or not to buy any of the new models.

Finally my opinion has not changed. Before its presentation, based on the information available to it, I had almost decided that I was not going to renew my current iPhone for the new iPhone 7. As in life, the reason is not only one. If you are hesitating to purchase or not the new Apple smartphone, perhaps my opinion about it can be of some help to you. Let's see why I made this decision.

The iPhone 7 allows me to hope for better

This year of 2016, which is already entering its final stretch, is not being a good year for Apple, but I am not saying it because your sales have been reduced, no, it's more of a personal perception. For the first time I am perceiving a lack of innovation, although I am still not clear if this is really so or you are just trying to sell us a device halfway to the one you are actually planning. Honestly, I don't know which of the two options is worse.

Already since the launch of the previous iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, we began to hear rumors about what would be the next generation of the Cupertino flagship, the iPhone 7. Interestingly, these rumors did not differ much from those we had heard from throughout the previous year for a generation "S", in short: same design and improvements internally.

At the same time, the hare of the 2017th anniversary iPhone was jumping, which will be released next year, in XNUMX, and which, apparently, could mean a true transformation of the device, something like the "Renaissance of the iPhone."

And the key day arrived

Finally, September 7 arrived and each and every one of the pools were fulfilled: Apple presented us with a generation "S" disguised as a new iPhone. Yes, because in essence, the iPhone 7 is an improved iPhone 6s, with a couple of new finishes, one less connector, one more adapter, improved levels of resistance to dust and water, a more powerful chip and little else. But I insist, in essence, it is the same terminal. And look, I don't think it's bad, that is, I consider that the rate of renewal of smartphones, as it happened with the iPad, has reached a limit where there is nothing more to offer. For this reason, Apple is probably extending the renewal cycle from two to three years, and it seems like a wise decision. What doesn't seem so good to me is trying to paint it as something totally new when the only really noteworthy thing about the new iPhone 7 is its dual camera and to top it all, it's an exclusive feature of the iPhone 7 Plus.

Thanks Apple

In fact, I consider that the introduction of 3D Touch in the iPhone 6s was a novelty of greater significance than any of those presented in the iPhone 7, and this despite the fact that its potential has not yet been fully exploited.

If we look at the competition, what happened this year with the iPhone 7 is not exclusive to Apple; the Galaxy S7 is nothing more than an improved version? of the S6, perhaps because they predict a surprising "iPhone 8", and are looking for the right moment to launch a blow of effect.

In any case, the new iPhone 7 doesn't give me enough reasons to replace my current iPhone 6 Plus, which, after two years, goes smoothly, even better than before thanks to the improvements of iOS 10.

So, although I would like to have seen a new design, an OLED screen, a waterproof iPhone and many other things, I am still happy, because for the first time since I entered the ecosystem of the bitten apple, Apple has managed to spend almost a year without investing in its products. And if you do nothing to prevent it, another year like this will pass until the appearance of the "iPhone 8" or whatever the next terminal is called.

There has only been one exception where Apple has shown that, if it wants, it can innovate and bring the competition to its knees. This exception has allowed you to say that "almost" a year has passed without me investing in your products. But that is another story that I will tell you in a future post.
