Was Apple right with the redesign of the new iMac?

In January of this year I received the new iMac at home, I was anxiously waiting like a small child for its arrival, especially that spectacular design How much it caught my attention when I saw it for the first time in the October keynote, which personally I thought was the most spectacular device of all those who were presented. In part I felt something similar to what was the presentation of the first iPhone at the time, seeing that bezel so thin as the camera was lowered to gradually show the iMac before the expectant silence of the audience attending the keynote, it was really priceless , although I follow him like most of us, through a screen and streaming.

Simple design or obvious improvement

Now after almost five months of continuous use with the iMac, I have to say that I am very happy in general with the performance of the equipment and I still admire the precious design that it boasts, however I can not ignore other deficiencies that if I have been able to miss the previous model.

In the first moment the thin ends are surprising that it exhibits, but on the other hand if you think about it coldly, you realize that the depth of the equipment remains the same since we could say that it is a "misleading" design, that thinness is only apparent because its widest point is It is located right in the center of the back, it is exactly the same width as the previous model and the foot where it rests makes that supposed advantage disappear to remain in a simple and pure design. And it is at this point where you realize that the optical drive has also disappeared (I will not miss it personally) and the card reader has been moved, for reasons of design to the rear, making it an ordeal to have to look for the reader's input every time we have to insert a card.

Another disadvantage from my point of view is that the glass it is glued to the chassis frame that surrounds the screen to reduce the thickness of it by a few millimeters but still maintaining the same LG panel from other years, which although not bad is not an advance. This makes the process of changing any broken component or simply updating it ourselves a lot more delicate.

An adelante pass

With this I don't mean to say that I prefer the older model about the new or that this iMac does not live up to its predecessors, because it is not. I think this new model is quieter due in part to the inclusion of a single more centralized fan and the reduction of components in size, apart from the obvious improvements in the general hardware and something that I have appreciated very much ... that the screen has reduced reflections by 75% according to Apple. I do not know if it will reach that high percentage but what is true is that the previous model with a bit of direct light reflected much more than this.

In short, it seems to me a great engineering effort to slim down what has been done by the spectacular design that the previous one already looked, with a more efficient ventilation system, an additional thunderbolt connection, usb 3.0 ports and a screen that although the panel is the same has clearly improved in visibility.
