JP Morgan seizes MCX to compete with Apple Pay

Since the launch of Apple Pay in October 2014 in the United States, a service that has subsequently expanded and is currently available in 15 countries, including Spain as the only Spanish-speaking country, many have been banks and manufacturers that have launched similar services, taking into account that Apple Pay was not the first system of its kind. Before its launch, large American stores such as WalMart or Target, among others, had created a consortium called MCX, the purpose of which was to launch a payment system that did not need an NFC chip.

But time has passed and the consortium has not finished launching this product, a product that would allow all users of these establishments to make purchases without having to carry their wallets, only their smartphones. To try to finally bring this payment system to life, JP Morgan has just announced its acquisition, which will become part of the payment system called Chase Pay, which is currently only available at Best Buy, although Walmart and Target could also add it to their payment options shortly.

The MCX service, called CurrentC, which was launched in beta a little more than 10 months ago after continuous delays, never got out of that phase and the few users who were able to test it, claimed that the operation was quite complex and only those could be added. checking accounts of certain banks and credit cards. Once the beta phase is over, the service was paralyzed, and was left in a drawer waiting for the main managers of this consortium to make a decision in this regard. But over time, the main companies that bet on MCX began to adopt Apple Pay and Android Pay in their stores, confirming the practical demise of MCX.
