Mac sales down 13% last quarter

In Apple's fiscal 3rd quarter results presentation presented a few hours ago, we saw the growth of the company's income statement, where the important pull continues to be given by the iPhone. Services become the second source of income for the company.

But when it comes to the followers of this website, we find alarming data, but at the same time with a logical explanation. Mac sales are down 13% if we compare the sales of the 3rd quarter in 2017 compared to the same period of 2018. Compared to 3,7 million in 2018, the figure for 2017 was 4,49 million.

Although it is a product that is increasingly specific to a customer sector, Apple comes out in defense of its teams. Their arguments are as follows:

On one hand, hardware was presented exceptionally at WWDC last year, including several Mac models. Therefore, as it suggests to us Neil cybart, the comparison cannot be made due to lack of homogeneity.

On the other hand, this exercise, the update of the first Macs has occurred from July, who corresponds to the 4th fiscal quarter. Among others Mark Gurman explains that this cannot be the most logical explanation for the drop in sales.

Other analysts look at other parameters. Apple may not be concerned about the sale of Macs, if not about their profitability. The price of Macs is at highs. Except for the price of the entry Mac, the MacBook Air, the rest starts at € 1.500, a high price for a computer, regardless of the high value it reports. That is to say, What it gets for each Mac sold is important to Apple, rather than the number of computers it sells.

Change of strategy or progressive abandonment of the Mac range? We understand that powerful computer equipment always has to exist, even if it is to perform tasks at a reasonable speed or specific tasks, and therefore Apple is focusing on quality equipment, but at a high cost.
