Pebble smartwatches will be discontinued in June of this year

Pebble was the first company to launch a smartwatch on the market that became a bestseller, selling millions of units worldwide. Throughout its short history, the company has been renewing its devices, including models with a color screen, but unfortunately it was unable to adapt to new technologies and needs and it ended up being bought a couple of years ago by Fitbit.

The Pebble revolution will end in June of this year, since as Fitbit announced after Pebble purchases, it will stop supporting the latest models with a color screen that it launched on the market, so that any doubt or problem will force us to make good use of the community, a community that unfortunately after the announcement of the purchase by Fitbit has declined a lot, use third parties or store the smartwatch in a drawer.

The Pebble user community grew like foam, and many were the users and developers who launched applications for this ecosystem, having at our disposal a large number of applications of any type for our smartwatch. As of June of this year, the application to synchronize notifications and others on our iPhone will stop updating, so it may it is time to start thinking about renovating it.

Apple offers us a wide range of models, starting from the Series 1 in 42 and 38 mm and ending in the Series 3 in 42 and 38 mm, the latter being the most expensive models. We will not find the integration that the Apple Watch offers us with the iPhone in any other competing smartwatch, since Apple offers us the same privileges or access to the system that the Apple Watch has for obvious reasons, since it almost forces So if you want to enjoy a fully functional smartwatch, you end up buying an Apple Watch.

I have read in other technology blogs that, although many of the features will stop working, many others such as notifications or the timeline (of the calendar) will continue to work. All this, as long as there is no change in the mobile OS that makes them incompatible.

For my part, I use a Pebble Time Steel (with which I am delighted) to see the notifications of the iPhone without having to take it out of my pocket, check my calendar and little else. As long as it continues to give me these functions, the 8/10 days of the watch's battery continue to matter more to me than the functionalities of the Apple Watch (which, yes, I already have my eye on it). I hope they improve their autonomy soon, there I will no longer have doubts.

We will see how the whole thing evolves.
    Thanks for the information.
