Theatrical release of Beastie Boys Story documentary canceled

Beastie Boys

Apple officially unveiled the first trailer for the Beastie Boys Story documentary, a documentary shot by Spike Jonze that initially had scheduled to be shown at SXSW, one of the most important film, music and television events that takes place every year in the United States and that it was canceled due to the coronavirus.

By not being able to officially present this new documentary, Apple had planned bring to IMAX theaters next April 2 of this documentary and it would not be until the 24th of it when it is officially available on Apple's streaming video service. Due to the coronavirus, this new documentary will premiere directly on Apple TV +.

An Apple spokesperson, who has been contacted by Deadline, states that:

Our highest priority is the health of our audiences and employees, as well as their families and communities. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent closure of theaters across the country, we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of 'Beastie Boys Story' to a later date, which will be announced as soon as possible. IMAX ticket holders can receive a full refund by contacting their local theater. Beastie Boys Story, directed by Spike Jonze, will premiere on Apple TV + on April 24.

Apple is not only being forced to delay or directly cancel premieres of some of its series or movies, but it is also canceling the filming of some of its series such as The Morning Show, For all humanity and See, the three main bets of Apple for its streaming video service, all due to the coronavirus.

And when it is not the coronavirus, it is due to the problems of sexual harassment of one of the producers, as is the case with the movie The Banker, a series that was also scheduled to premiere in movie theaters, but due to that scandal and later the coronavirus, it has reached Apple TV + directly.
