This is Jim Reekes, the creator of the Mac startup sound

If there is a sound that every maquero knows perfectly, it is that of the Mac startup, It has been present in the system for a very long time and no one could go wrong at this point when they hear that mythical "chhammm."

This is what Jim says, translated by the guys from applesphere:

“The starter sound was created in my home studio with a Korg Wavestation. It is a chord in C major (…). It just sounded good to me. (…) Maqueros are very familiar with sound from restarting their machines often. In fact, that was one of the problems I had in mind when I designed the sound. Turning on your Mac is one thing, but being forced to reboot after a crash is an entirely different experience. I wanted to avoid a sound that could be associated with hang up. (…) After changing the boot sound (which required a lot of persuasion and work around the system) the ROM engineers kept changing it with each new machine. Some were weak, like the Stanley Jordan strum that was used in early PowerMacs. I was against it, because the sound had no "power". The engineer was not a sound engineer, and he was not sufficiently familiar with audio. The sound lacked depth. When Steve Jobs came back in 1997, I heard that he wanted a single sound for all Macs. I wanted the 'good', which was the one I created. "

You don't have to be very smart to know that this guy really knows what he's talking about, that he was an important part in the development of Mac OS from version 7 and that he does not lack a sense of humor. A crack.
