This extension for Safari allows us to enable the Picture in Picture function on unsupported websites

In my previous article I showed you how we can enable the Picture in Picture function in the videos of the web pages that we visit with Safari that are compatible with this technology. In that same article, I mentioned Netflix as an example of a website that does not allow enabling this new function that has come from the hand of macOS Sierra. Each web page is free to allow what can be done with its content, of course, but there are always restless users looking for a solution when it is not offered natively. We are talking about an extension that allows you to perform this function in any video web page displaying videos in HTML 5 format.

This function is ideal since it allows us to increase productivity a bit, and I say a little, because it distracts us from our purpose by placing ourselves in front of Mac. Not all web pages are compatible with this function and to find a solution the developer Arno Appenzeller has released an extension for Safari that allows you to place the playback window of web pages that do not allow it, such as Netflix in a floating window that we can place anywhere on our desktop.

This extension is called PiPifier and it is available through this link. Once we have downloaded and run it we will go to Safari> Preferences> Extensions in macOS Sierra to enable the PiPifier extension. Next, a new icon will appear in the top bar of Safari, but for it to start working we will have to restart the browser.

The operation is simpler than the one I have explained to you to do it natively on the compatible websites, since we only have to go to the web page where the video is located and click on the extension icon. once activated we can move the video anywhere on the screen, in addition to resizing the window. Besides being compatible with Netflix, it also works perfectly with YouTube, Twitch as well as the different web pages that allow us to watch streaming movies and series for "free".

If you have not yet upgraded to macOS Sierra because your Mac is not supported, you can make use of the Helium application, available in the Mac App Store and which also allows us to perform this function, in a more rudimentary way but it is better than not enjoying it if it is really necessary.

Hello Ignacio, I have done what you say and it has not worked for me. In the same way, I wanted to uninstall the extension and there is no way to do it. The option to uninstall in Safari extensions does not appear. I have tried to locate the extension on the hard drive (including the c
    hidden folders) and neither… nothing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you
    Mauricio

At first it also gave me problems, but after restarting it works. On YouTube it does not work as well as the native way that I have explained in my previous article, so it is recommended for youTube to make PIP with the native option.
