When an application on Mac stops responding, force it to close with this simple keyboard shortcut

Force close app-mac-spinning ball-0

Although OS X is constantly polishing and improving details in terms of safety and stability, It is not without flaws like any other operating system to a greater or lesser extent. For this reason, from time to time, some other application may crash and we will see the so "feared" and well-known multicolored beach ball spinning non-stop.

This colorful Apple cursor appears when some process is not working as it should and is not responding. At this point we will only have to wait to see if the process finally responds or on the other hand if we are in a hurry the only option is to stop the process and retry the action we were carrying out with that application, restarting the process again.

Force close app-mac-spinning ball-1

Below we show you some ways to close either the application in which this process is running in the background or through a keyboard shortcut to close it directly without having to previously select anything.

Go to the Apple menu  and select Force Quit ...
Right click on the application icon in the Dock and select Exit
Run Activity Monitor in Applications> Utilities, identify the application that is not responding, and terminate it.

However, from time to time, the system crashes and will not allow you open no more windows or run no functions. So, only with the keyboard shortcut we can solve it:

CMD + ALT + Shift + ESC key

We will wait a few seconds and the application should automatically close. If that doesn't work, then the only option is to force a restart of the Mac.

Also if we suspect that it is not the application we are running, but some other that is already running, we can press

CMD + ALT + ESC

In this way we will see a menu to force the exit of the applications as you see in the image above.

I hope it has been helpful and at least serve you in some other situation.
