APFS will be available on hard drives and Fusion Drive in macOS Mojave

The new Apple operating system that will be available to the general public from September. MacOS Mojave will bring among other novelties the inclusion of the APFS file system in Fusion Drive disks, but also in Mechanical Hard Disks.

Now all our hard drives, internal and external, will benefit from all the advantages that APFS has and that came to Macs in High Sierra, but only for SSD drives. This file system had previously been tested on portable drive operating systems such as watchOS, iOS, or tvOS.

Predictably when installing macOS Mojave ask us if we want to change the format of the disks from HFS + to APFS. This installation will take longer than a regular installation, as the system will have to change the format. The magic of Apple will do the rest, as no data has been lost in this change of format.

On the other hand, the new hard drives will have all the novelties of this Apple file system. System boot should be faster in APFS. In addition, any application opens faster with this file system, as well as the options to copy and paste files. In fact, this function apparently is instantaneous within the same hard disk, although what the system actually carries out is a function in the background.

If you were thinking of buying a memory disk, it is always better to buy it in SSD format because of the speed that this reports, but in any case, we will see if the magic of Apple extends to external hard drives, where we have Lots of information: photos, videos, personal documents of all kinds, which today are at best in HFS + and allows us to convert them to APFS without too much effort.

In any case, these are actions that Apple usually saves until the last minute, and we will not even see it until the exit of macOS Mojave.
