The last Apple store to open soon will be the one located in Hong Kong, one of the largest in Asia and which was made public this week with the presentation of a huge three-dimensional logo of the block in a somewhat unexpected place.
The new store rises three stories high at the north end of Canton Road in the Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood, one of Hong Kong's busiest and a major shopping area for tourists from mainland China. Although the option of opening a store in this neighborhood is not surprising since it has been rumored for years, it is somewhat peculiar since it is more than 10 minutes from the nearest metro exit and away from the famous Star Ferry that takes passengers to Victoria Harbor.
This will be the opening the fourth Apple Store in Hong Kong, joining the significant Store of the International Financial Center (IFC), the other three-story store in Causeway Bay and a little shop in the Kowloon Tong mall. On the other hand, according to different rumors, it is possible that the expansion of the IFC store is also being considered to add an extra third floor.
Hong Kong is an important market for Apple as it sits on the doorstep of mainland China and attracts tens of millions of mainland shoppers each year. Many take the opportunity to buy luxury goods and electronics at much cheaper prices than what you can find on the continent, which imposes very high import rates and taxes, making the price of the final product extremely expensive.
