Apple changes the system font for the first time in OS X Yosemite

Desktop-osx-Yosemite

After nine versions of the Cupertino desktop system, OS X 10.10 Yosemite brings us a change in the font that has been used for system interface text.

As in iOS 7, the Lucida Grande typeface has been moved to Helvetica Neue, a finer and more stylized typeface. A typeface that gives a fresh and renewed look to the new and future Mac system.

If we start to analyze all the news that visually have modified in OS X Yosemite, We do not realize the type of font used because until you install beta 1 and start using it you do not see it so clearly. In my case it was instantaneous, since since the desktop was shown everything seemed different, something told me that I was not seeing everything the same.

The fact is that Apple, taking into account the convergence that is taking place between iOS and OS X, it was to be expected that it would move this tab and use this new font in the Macs system, the Helvetica New. As soon as we rummage through the net, we can already find criticisms from typographers and graphic designers who do not leave this new typeface in a very good place, alluding to its poor readability.

According to some designers, depending on the word to be written and the size of this typeface, its readability leaves much to be desired. According to him typographer Tobías Frere-Jones:

Fonts-OSX

We must remember the criticism that the Helvetica Neue Ultra Light that was used in the first betas of iOS 7. However, as I have told you, I have been using the system these last two days and I notice it fresher, a very beautiful and stylized handwriting. I have shown some friends the new desktop and the menus and one of the things they told me was that the font was finally changed and on top of it a very nice and legible one.

What do you think of this typeface?

Let's see ... if the comparison were neutral ... but ... first putting the same interleading would be fair ... put the same space as the Lucida in the Helvetica and you will see that the feeling will be different ... or vice versa, compact more the space in the Lucida and we will obviously have less ease of reading ... as the types pile up ...

The change in appearance ... seems like rubbish to me, so clear and direct. If I wanted to use IOS8 I would buy an iPhone, but here the change is hardly justified.
