Apple File System debuts with macOS High Sierra

Apple File System (APFS) that arrived for iOS devices with the new version 10.3 released by Apple in March, will now arrive on Mac computers with the new MacOS High Sierra. In this case, as we understand once yesterday's event is over, the teams that can use APFS, which are those that have flash storage, will use it, the rest will be able to continue using HFS +.

Today the file system works very well on all computers, but flash storage is catching on today and it is necessary to improve the performance and organization of all these files and folders that we have stored, with APFS the improvement is remarkable and will soon be a reality.

With macOS High Sierra, all Macs with SSDs will release Apple File System, the file system with advanced architecture that reaches new heights of security and speed. So in principle the only impediment to using Apple File System with the new macOS High Sierra back in September, will be for those users who have one SSD and one hard drive combined in Fusion Drive mode.

Three points stand out in Apple from this file system:

  • Advanced. New 64-bit architecture is built for today's flash technology and tomorrow's storage options
  • Righ now. The most common tasks, such as duplicating a file or checking the size of a folder, are snapshots
  • Insurance policy. Built-in encryption, crash protection, and easier backups anywhere. Save yourself trouble

Actually present is on flash storage disks and this system adds much more to the management of all the files that we have on the Mac.

I am not an expert but what generates doubt is that if there will be a compatibility problem when wanting to work those files on other platforms

Yes, we may have compatibility issues with this file format. Let's see how they solve it in Apple

They do well to integrate this new file system. I suppose that the improvement will be noticeable as much as we have already seen in other Apple operating systems, accelerating it to the maximum. I hope that, above all, it improves the file upload speed on the base model of the previous iMac, which does not yet have an SSD.

    Greetings 😉
