Apple releases fourth beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.1

macOS Sierra with Siri is here, and these are all its news

As we already expected, Apple has released the fourth beta version of macOS Sierra 10.12.1, the next "big" update to the new operating system that, after a long time being demanded by users, has introduced Siri to our Mac desktops and laptops.

This fourth preliminary version for testing purposes, as on other occasions, has been released simultaneously for both developers and users enrolled in the public beta program of the company that also gives access to the preliminary versions of the mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad, iOS 10.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Beta 4

Like every week, Apple has deployed its arsenal of preliminary updates. Last Monday released the tvOS 3 beta 10.1, and also the beta 3 of iOS 10.1, which includes the new portrait mode, an incredible new feature that equates the iPhone 7 Plus camera, of which it will be exclusive, with digital SLR cameras. In both cases, the updates were exclusive to developers.

Now, a day later, Apple completes the weekly cycle by releasing the fourth beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.1, this time, simultaneously for developers and public beta testers.

The beta 4 of macOS Sierra 10.12.1 arrives exactly seven days after the company released the previous preliminary version, and three weeks after speaking, the new macOS Sierra operating system has been officially launched for all users.

The fourth beta of macOS Sierra is here available for direct download via the Apple Developer Center website (only if you are a developer) or through the usual software update mechanism on the Mac App Store (Updates section) for those who already have a previous beta version of macOS Sierra 10.12.1 installed.

What news can we see in this update?

macOS Sierra is a major update that goes beyond a name change. With the new operating system, the Siri virtual assistant is finally available for Macs (from mid-2009 onwards). But it has also been an important step in what Apple calls "Continuity" (greater integration between iOS and macOS) with new functions such as the "Universal Clipboard" or automatic unlocking from the Apple Watch. Nor can we forget the new storage optimization feature or the ability to have files from the Desktop and Documents folder available everywhere through iCloud Drive.

Given the abundance of news, and the recent official launch of macOS Sierra (last September 20), you will already assume that the next update will not bring us design changes or new functions or features.

MacOS Sierra 10.12.1 appears to be an update that is focused on bug fixes and performance and stability improvements General to address issues that may have been encountered since the release of the operating system.

It is also likely that, should Apple finally launch a new series of the MacBook Pro, the operating system will include some specific features, however, already in mid-October, this seems less and less likely.

Despite all the above, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 is going to include an interesting novelty that is none other than Support through the Photos app for the new Portrait mode coming to the iPhone 7 Plus with the release of iOS 10.1.

How to sign up for the macOS Sierra beta program

To download this and other beta versions of macOS Sierra, you will need to enroll in the Appl beta programe since this site. To do this, you have to log in with your Apple ID credentials and follow the steps indicated that include the installation of "Feedback Assistant" to report the bugs you detect.

Once you've installed the beta version, the next updates will be available directly from the Mac App Store.

Since these are trial versions, they can contain or cause different bugs and errors, so we recommend not installing them on your main work equipment.
