Apple Releases Third Public Beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.1

macOS Sierra with Siri is here, and these are all its news

Yesterday afternoon, Apple released the third public beta of which will be the next update of your new desktop operating system, macOS Sierra 10.12.1.

This new preliminary version in testing phase arrives exactly two weeks after the official launch for all macOS Sierra users, one week after the previous beta, and just one day after it was made available to developers.

macOS Sierra is on its way to the next update

Last Monday, the Cupertino company launched the third beta macOS Sierra for testing purposes and exclusively for developers. A day later, as has become customary, the new trial version is now available to all those users registered in the company's public beta program.

As we already informed you on Monday from Soy de Mac, in this next update we will not find new relevant functions or visual changes as far as design is concerned. So far, the three beta versions released by Apple for macOS Sierra 10.12.1 are focused on typical bug fixes detected during this period as well as general performance and system stability improvements.

The only news is ...

The only notable new feature in macOS Sierra 10.12.1 is that the Photos app adds support for the new portrait mode that will arrive in the next update of iOS 10 and that will be exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Since the launch of macOS Sierra last Tuesday, September 20, the only "great" novelty has been the introduction of the operating system itself within the system. automatic downloads from Apple for those users who are still working with OS X El Capitan. From now on, and as long as we do not disable this option from System Preferences -> App Store, any Mac or MacBook that meets the technical requirements of macOS Sierra will download the latest update available in the background. For this to happen, the equipment in question must have sufficient storage space. If not, the download will also be canceled automatically and the installer will be deleted from our applications folder.

On the other hand, although the download of the installer package will be automatic, its installation will require the express permission of the user.

How to access the macOS Sierra public beta

The third public beta of macOS Sierra is now available as one more update through the usual update system of the Mac App Store. For this update to be available, before you must sign up for Apple's public beta program which will give you access to preview versions of both iOS and macOS Sierra.

To sign up, visit this site and identify yourself using your Apple ID credentials. Once inside, you simply have to follow the instructions that are indicated to you to point your equipment to the beta versions. A "Feedback Assistant" will be installed on your Mac, a small application that will allow you to easily report errors that you may detect in the system.

Once this wizard has been installed on your computer, you can open the Mac App Store, click on the "Updates" section, and the latest beta version of macOS Sierra will be waiting for you.

Some caveats before installing a beta version of macOS Sierra

The safest thing is to do it on a secondary computer (and even on an external hard drive). And that yes, never forget to make a backup before doing any installation, just in case.
