Apple just launched a new replacement program limited exclusively to USB-C cables that were sold in conjunction with the 12-inch MacBook with retina display or were sold separately. until June 2015. A design error in this cable can cause it to stop working without affecting the integrity of the device. As part of the program, all users who are affected by this defective cable will be able to replace it at no cost through the official channels that Apple offers for this type of case.

The problems related to this cable and which Apple has now officially confirmed were published by 9to5Mac. These cables with a faulty design can cause problems when charging the Macbook, such as intermittent loads while it is connected to the power or that simply the Macbook not able to load when it is connected to the electricity source.

The cable that Apple offers as a replacement has been redesigned and it will not return to offer the problems that until now the previous model was showing. Apple makes it clear that this problem not only affects the cable of the Macbooks that were sold together, but also affects the cables that were sold separately, so it is very important that if you have the 12-inch Macbook or you have bought a cable separately check if it is affected or not.

All cables show "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China" but not all cables are affected, only those that do not show a serial number, as we can see in the image above. All those users who have made the purchase online, will receive at their addresses a replacement cable before the end of February. Although if you are in a hurry and do not want to wait, you can go to an Apple Store and change it directly without problems. This replacement program will be available until June 8, 2018.
