Apple Maps adds new features for Portugal and the Netherlands

A new Apple Maps could suggest where to go or what to visit

Apple Maps is one of those Apple apps that I would love to see a little better than it is. It is true that little by little, thanks to its renovations and updates, it is becoming an adult and its functionalities do not despair as in the beginning. It still has a long way to go to reach the level of Google Maps, but everything will come. The lucky ones this time are Portugal and the Netherlands and everyone who uses these maps often.

Apple Maps reconfigures due to coronavirus

Apple has already started updates to its Apple Maps application, to incorporate important developments in Europe. Now it is up to the areas of Portugal and the Netherlands. We all benefit, but especially those who will use the maps on a daily basis. New 3D maps have been added and the possibility to choose public transport as a means of movement.

Apple has added 3D rendering of satellite images to the cities of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Zandvoort, Bloemendaal, Heemstede, Hoofddorp, Zaandam and Aalsmeer. Previously, only Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Utrecht could be viewed in 3D in the Netherlands. Flyover is not yet available in the new locations. The expansion also appears to include several surrounding towns and villages, such as Lisse, Abcoude, Amersfoort, Soest, Baarn, and Leusden. The images used are reportedly from the spring of this year.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), has also added public transport information for the city of Lisbon (Portugal) to ‌Apple Maps‌, including its surrounding areas. ‌Apple Maps‌ users in the region can now select public transportation routes when getting directions between two locations.

Apple is on the right track, with the Apple Maps application. A little slow, of course but good. Hopefully at some point it will be as accurate and have the same options as Google Maps, its great rival. Although it seems that Apple does not care too much about the differences between the two.
