Apple Music reaches 56 million users, although Spotify is still ahead and growing at a better pace

Apple Music

Some time ago, from Apple we saw how suddenly came the launch of Apple Music, its streaming music service, which little by little has grown to the point that today, together with Spotify, practically lead the market, as it is an excellent service.

And, as proof of this, are the statistics. And it is that some time ago, from Apple they announced that had reached 50 million users, and recently we have seen an even greater jump, because today, Apple Music already has more than 56 million paying users.

Apparently, this is a piece of information that has not been officially published by them, since at present have relatively comprehensive privacy for these types of statistics, but thanks to the agreements they have with iHeartMedia, The Financial Times has made it public that Apple Music has finally reached 56 million users, taking into account those who pay periodically for the subscription, as well as those who are in tests.

Meanwhile, Spotify continues to gain in this regard, given that not counting the users of the free plan, last month they revealed that have 87 million paying users around the world, although it should also be taken into account that it has been available for much longer in the market.

However, what is really curious about this is that although the Cupertino platform had higher growth figures, this is no longer entirely the case, since in the same period, Spotify gained 12 million more paying users, while Apple Music only gained 6 million, that is, half.

Apple Music Growth vs. Spotify: December 2018

In this way, we can appreciate how in recent years there has been significant growth in the streaming music sector, although it has been more reflected in terms of Spotify, probably due to its greater compatibility, since for example in the smart speaker sector it is the most generic and what is most often used.

However, a few days ago we saw how Amazon announced that, very soon, Apple Music could be used with Alexa and Echos, so for this same reason, taking into account that they are one of the best-selling smart speakers, it is to be expected that the growth rate of this service will increase little by little over the next few months.

And do you wonder that Spotify wins with the free plan? The weird thing would be if Apple Music won, a lot of people use it just for that, it's free although it includes ads ...

Hello Alejandro! As you can see, the figures that we name in the article relating to Spotify represent only those users subscribed to the payment plans (individual, family, students ...), so the comparison would be correct, since we compare exactly the same thing within each service 😉
Greetings, and thank you very much for reading!
