Apple launches graphics replacement program for iMac 2011

Today Apple just launched a new replacement program for some of the 27-inch iMac with Intel Core i5 quad-core 3,1 GHz or Intel Core i7 quad-core 3,4 GHz processors sold between the months May 2011 and October 2012, which assemble the graphics card AMD Radeon HD 6970M and that after some problems and failures reported by the users of these iMac, those of Cupertino add them to this replacement program.

The problem in question is that the image on the screen of these iMac appears distorted or in some cases it even becomes totally white or blue with vertical stripes or totally black. As always in these cases, It is not necessary to have a guarantee or to have contracted the Apple Care Protection Plan so that we change the faulty graphics card.

So if your iMac has this AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics mounted and it exhibits this problem, Apple will change it to you totally free by contacting them and making an appointment at a Genius Bar of any of the Apple Store they have in our country or anywhere in the world.

Also in these cases in which Apple initiates a replacement program, if it is the case that we already carry our iMac or any other device of the company previously due to this problem before Apple itself 'recognized the failure', we can request a refund of what was paid.

Apple will replace the graphics card at no cost for a period of three years from the first date of sale of the computer.

For all these steps we leave the telephones of Apple technical support.

I have an imac with that data but not with the problem. Would it be changed as a precaution or only those who have the problem?

I had a 2009 iMac for which in 2012 Apple put a hard drive replacement program. Mine had never failed, but being within the series you take it to an Apple Store or authorized technical service and they change it free of charge. Try to search Apple's support page to find out and be able to enter the serial number of your equipment so you can see that it tells you that you have the right to change it if it is within the lot.

NO, in the technical service, they make a diagnosis so that it can enter the replacement program, my Imac 27 ″ is one of those sold with the defective graphics card, but "since it did not pass the diagnosis" they do not change it. a trap.
