Apple sentenced to pay 318 million to the Italian treasury

trial courts

For the past few years, we have been talking about problems Apple has faced in both the European Union and the United States for allegedly evading tax, by establishing his main base in Ireland, where corporate tax is almost non-existent. The United States Congress is behind the Cupertino boys for precisely the same reason, where it is accused of evading taxes, when only 30% of all the money that the company moves is made in the country. A few months ago we informed you of the Italian government's plans to thoroughly examine the company to see if it is evading taxes in the country.

By blending the Irish subsidiary, the parent company from all over Europe, into the company's economic operations in the country, although it sure does the same in all countries, the Italian subsidiary could have saved up to $ 880 million between 2008 and 2013. Apparently the Cupertino-based company would have reached an agreement with the Italian treasury to disburse 318 million euros to complete the investigations that began a few months ago and that could mean a much higher payment for Apple than the agreed one.

Until now, Apple had always justified itself by claiming that they have always depended on the Irish subsidiary who is the one who really makes a profit by selling to subsidiaries in the countries where the devices are sold at a very small margin that barely offers them a profit, hence they almost always pay very little taxes despite the money that the company moves. In Italy for example, corporate tax is 27,5% while Ireland is 12,5% in theory, but after the agreements it has reached with the Irish government, Apple would be paying only 4% as corporate tax.
