Apple TV + seizes the rights to the film The Macbeth Tragedy with Denzel Washington

The Macbeth Tragedy

Apple TV + has taken over the rights to the next The Macbeth Tragedy, the first film written and directed by Joel Coen without his brother and film partner Ethan Coen. The movie It will premiere first in theaters around the world during the fourth quarter of 2021, before being projected globally on Apple TV +.

According to Deadline, the film is considered a prestigious project and a award season contender. It stars Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington, multi-Oscar winners, and Coen himself has four Academy Awards. With such a roster, very little can go wrong.

McDormand plays Lady Macbeth and Washington plays Lord Macbeth, in a stylized version of William Shakespeare's play. The movie was shot in black and white. Coen has also opted for avoid any outdoor filming, preferring what he calls the "unreality" of sound scenes.

The rest of the main cast is comprised of Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Corey Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson. The cinematographer, Bruno Delbonnel, the costume designers, Mary Zophres, and the composer, Carter Burwell, are old acquaintances of Coen.

This agreement becomes an interesting title for a next season that includes the film CODA, directed by Sian Heder, who won 4 awards at the Sundance festival, including the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize.

To CODA, we have to add Finch, starring Tom Hanks, a science fiction film from Amblin Entertainment directed by Miguel Sapochnik, the film is expected to premiere on Apple TV + later this year.

So much CODA as Finch and The tragedy of Macbeth are 3 interesting Apple bets for to be eligible for the Academy Awards.
