Apple wants to make its augmented reality glasses perfect

Apple Glasses could be closer than ever

Apple is very focused on augmented reality, of that there is no doubt. We have seen it with various news related to this technology but above all we know it from the patents that Apple is including and registering. The «penultimate» of which we have had knowledge, it's about the ability that the virtual reality glasses they want to create are more than good. Be perfect.

When we use virtual reality on the iPhone or iPad, being able to move the objects that we have "inserted" is done with the movement of the devices itself and technology makes it easy to detect these movements up / down or towards the sides. The same goes for glasses and head movement. But What happens when the head is still and the eyes move?

In a new patent registered by Apple, this problem is discussed and some solutions are provided. "Method and device for eye tracking using event camera data"This is how the recently registered and applied for patent has been named. It describes the fact that this feature is needed, but also the problems it brings.

The eye tracking system often includes a camera that transmits images of the wearer's eyes to a tracking processor. Now the transmission of the images at a frame rate sufficient to allow eye tracking, requires a communication link with high bandwidth. Using such a communication link increases the heat generation and power consumption of the head-mounted device.

Apple's solution for augmented reality in Apple Glasses

The solution proposed by Apple is reduce the processing required to track a user's gaze and, to do so, change what exactly is tracked. One possible solution is to emit light with modulating intensity from a plurality of light sources towards the eye of a user:

The method includes receive data of an intensity of the emitted light reflected by the user's eye in the form of a plurality of flashes. The method includes determining an eye-tracking characteristic of the user based on the light intensity data.

As we always say, these ideas may stay there, just ideas because patents don't always come true.
