Apple wins battle against University of Wisconsin

Aerial view of the University of Wisconsin against which Apple has won a lawsuit

Apple has many judicial fronts open for the lawsuits filed against the company. On this occasion, the lawsuit filed by the University of Wisconsin, has come to an end in favor of the bitten apple company.

He still has many open fronts and we do not believe that he will be so lucky and end up winning as on this occasion. We refer, for example, to those that refer against antitrust laws. The most mediatic the war that Spotify has still open.

The University loses the battle and its claim of patent infringement.

We have to go back to 2015, when the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF)  from the university, tosigned that Apple's A-series chips infringed his patent in order to increase the efficiency of integrated circuits. In the lawsuit, WARF claimed damages of $ 862 million.

Things were not going well for Apple when the jury in charge of deliberating in the trial, found the American company guilty of infringing the patent. The judge considered that the infraction was reckless, so the amount to be paid was lowered to a total of 234 million dollars.

But Apple had an ace up its sleeve. Got that the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC, ruled that there was no evidence of a violation. Due to the US judicial system, the local judge's ruling had to be reversed.

Due to this situation, WARF requested permission to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court of the United States.

It has been known that the Supreme Court has denied the appeal requested by the University of Wisconsin. In this way, the payment of the legal claims requested and therefore the infringement of the patent has been rejected.

This should end Apple's battle against the University. A victory for Apple, although it has many more demands to face.
