Avast offers you a great free antivirus for your Mac

We all know that there is no such thing as an infallible operating system in all aspects and security is a very important one, so while The more means we put in to protect our systems, the better.

An excellent option in my view is the one offered by AVAST software with the free option of its antivirus, which although it does not have all the integrated options of its paid version is comprehensive enough for us to give it a try.

The first thing it will ask us as soon as we download it and drag it to the applications folder, is that let's register the program with an email account and a password to obtain the free license of the program and use it on any computer, simply by entering our credentials, although this step is not mandatory.

Once this step is done, we can now enter the antivirus options itself. We will see different protection shields both for the file system, as well as for the mail and even the web browser, in which it will install a plug-in that shows the reputation of the websites you visit by means of bars from red to green depending on whether it is dangerous or reliable.

The program is updated autonomously without our having to intervene other than to put our password when installing a new version or database.

The only negative point that has seemed somewhat cumbersome is the handling that the antivirus does in the supervision of email accounts, that is, we will have two different options when dealing with this configuration since if it is left as it comes there will be connection problems.

By default our gmail, hotmail accounts, ... usually bring transport and secure socket layer 'SSL - TLS' For the sending and receiving of our e-mails, for obvious security reasons it is an option that if we deactivate the mail it will not work.

The problem is that when we install avast, if not we tell it that stop monitoring incoming and outgoing servers The email address will block connections as it cannot inspect what is happening, so we will have to search for and enter these addresses in the exception area ... a burden that does not always work well.

Another option is directly disable SSL security from our email accounts, but having avast in the background and monitoring, it will work without problems. This is how I have it configured and I'm doing quite well for now.

avast-mac-4

In short, a great antivirus without being intrusive, with many protection options and that being free makes it more attractive for the user.
