Beware of the iTunes Store and its battery consumption on your MacBook

If we depend on the battery of our MacBook to be able to work or study since we are constantly moving, then this little information may interest you. It is possible that lately or some time ago we have noticed that the life of our battery runs out quickly without a clear explanation, we could even think that it is a hardware failure, something that obviously may be true but not without first check that all installed software you are not misusing the battery.

This has been the data that a user named Kirk McElhearn has been able to extract, who has noticed that the iTunes Store consumes resources disproportionately and without control, being able to leave us without battery much sooner than we think.

Specifically the iTunes Store uses an excessive percentage of the power of the CPU to show home page only and to scroll through the slides in the carousel at the top of the page.

In particular, I have performed the test on my iMac and as you can see from the screenshot, the simple fact of running iTunes with the main Store page open has made CPU consumption skyrockets to 25,3%However, if we put a song without having the store open, consumption drops to 5%. This clearly indicates that there is a software failure because consumption is far from normal.

The normal thing would be that both iTunes and coreaudiod (the process that controls the audio of both iTunes and other applications), consumed together approximately 7%, but the iTunes Store raises many more background threads that load the CPU, triggering consumption, hopefully Apple can correct it in future reviews.
