Belkin is working on an adapter to add AirPlay 2 to non-smart speakers

Belkin Soundform Connect

Many are the users who continue to refuse to dispense with your old stereos, music equipment that does not integrate any type of connectivity to be able to enjoy music in digital format, and I am not referring to CDs. If you are in this group of people and you use the Apple ecosystem, Belkin will offer us a solution.

According to FCC documentation which Janko Roettgers has had access to (via 9to5Mac), Belkin is working on a device dubbed the Belkin Soundform Connect, a device that add AirPlay 2 connection to any speaker, a device similar to the veteran AirPort Express.

The Belkin Soundform Connect is powered by a USB-C connection and includes a connection 3,5mm jack and one optical port in digital. Once we connect this adapter to a stereo or to speakers that have any of these connections, it will be displayed on the iPhone, iPad and Mac as a device compatible with AirPlay 2 to which we will be able to send the music we want to play.

AirPlay 2, unlike the first generation, offers a multi-room function that allows music to be transmitted to more than one speaker simultaneously, it is available on the HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV and Sonos speakers mainly in addition to other brands of speakers. Thanks to this functionality, we will be able to send different audio content to each of the speakers associated with this device and control them through voice commands and the Home application.

For now, it is unknown when this device may reach the market, a device that could be priced from $ 100 to $ 120. This device is ideal for all those who still have a quality stereo that over time has become outdated by not being compatible with currently available wireless technology.

The Belkin Soundform Connect will offer the same function as the Chromecast audio, the small device that Google launched a few years ago to add connectivity to old equipment and that was only oriented to the Android ecosystem.
