Can the new iPad Pro replace the desktop Mac?

Apple has just introduced a new iPad Pro. The main novelty is its new size. As of today, we have a 10,5 ″ iPad, a size that the company with the bitten apple considers, according to current demands, the perfect size between versatility, size and weight. Among the novelties we find a new keyboard that occupies the entire screen, even when we use the iPad horizontally. further we have a 6-core processor. That is why we ask ourselves the following question: Can this iPad with iOS 11 replace the Mac?

It can be a valid alternative for many users, but in my opinion it is a complementary tool. If you are a user who needs total portability, you dedicate part of your day to viewing audiovisual content, you have to be connected to social networks or you are a creative, it is possible that your main equipment is the new iPad Pro. With the tablet of Apple has:

  • Screen refresh rates up to 120hz, like the best living room televisions today.
  • HDR images, at the height of the 4k televisions of the moment.
  • The power of a 6-core chip, which lives up to or even beats many compact notebooks on the market.
  • 12MP camera at the rear, with stabilizer and brightness of 1,8 f. In the front, nothing more and nothing less than 7 Mb.

But perhaps the great novelty will come from the hand of iOS 11. The new iPad Pro includes essential features of MacOS in our day to day: Finder, whose version for iOS is called Files. The function of Drag and Drop (copy and drop): for the first time we can drag an element from one window to another or from one application to another. Finally, a version of the Dock MacOS or Mission Control.

Still, I think there is a long way to go before a tablet can "cannibalize" a Mac. In the first place, for a question of space: you will always have more memory, processor and ventilation in the smallest of MacBooks and therefore more powerful to perform certain tasks. Secondly, the screen: A larger screen is always more practical not only to see the screen better, but If to reorder the space with several applications at the same time on our desktop, or desks, Well, let's remember that in MacOs we have a practically unlimited number of screens.

We leave you the video published by Apple regarding the iPad Pro so that you can draw your own conclusions. For my part and after making this article, I still think that they are still complementary and not substitutes.

Haha that never. Why is having apps that do "everything" on an iPad considered a complete experience? At least as a programmer I say so, as long as I don't have an app that allows me to write and compile a program on the same iPad, the
same will never replace my Mac
