Car audio giant Alpine launches its first floating unit with CarPlay

It is not news that Alpine is betting on Apple CarPlay, as the operating system for its devices for cars. Alpine was one of the first to implement CarPlay on a Jeep, with a 9-inch screen in 2016. But this time, it has presented a new version that fits most vehicles.

On this occasion, it uses the format that we find in the latest vehicles released on the market. 9 inch floating screens, which supplement the space allocated on the dashboard that usually ranges between 6,1 inches and 7 inches. With this we gain enough size to easily visualize the information.

The model is baptized with the name of iLX-F309 and according to the manufacturer, it gives us:

The iLX-F309 is an AM / FM / audio / video receiver with a 9-inch WVGA touch screen and a non-CD / DVD slot design. It uses a DIN chassis for installation and the display attaches in front of the vehicle's dash, allowing the large display to be incorporated into a variety of vehicles without the need for custom installation. The iLX-F9's nickname "HALO309" is the description adopted for the display's flight position and its 9-inch size.

El floating design, presented as HALO9, allows to adjust the device, to adapt it to our vision. It allows a rotation angle of 45 degrees, contracts the device 20 millimeters, and moves up or down around 3o millimeters.

Where this Alpine product should improve is in the screen resolution. It incorporates WVGA 480p, which means that the larger screen simply shows the content enlarged and not the sharper content.

On the other hand, it incorporates all these additional features:

  • HD Radio Tuner Incorporated
  • It is possible to connect, among other devices, a iPhone or iPod.
  • FLAC / MP3 / WMA / AAC / HE-AAC music playback via USB
  • App integration Alpine Tune It
  • La My favorites function provides custom shortcuts for audio content, places, and phone numbers.
  • Touch screen control of multiple camera systems.

The player begins its commercialization in February, at a starting price of $ 1.100

The big problem with carplay is the small amount of app with which it is compatible, it should at least be possible to use it with waze
