We recently spoke to you in a recent post about the problems that Mail is experiencing with VIP mailboxes in OS X El Capitan and in which we gave you a small temporary solution to be able to solve it until Apple released a patch or update that could definitively solve it.

However, not everything is bad in Mail since apart from being the native manager in OS X, it integrates compatibility with continuity, that is, the ability to keep writing emails If we have started on our iPhone, finish it on Mac or vice versa. Something very useful. In turn, since the last edition of the system, the possibility of using gestures to indicate if the message had been read, deleted or archived was also integrated.

In this small article we will show you how to change the option to swipe left the message in question so that the first default option is to trash or archive the message.

This option is only on OS X 10.11 and later, to configure it we will follow these simple steps: later:

Run Mail and go to the application menu «Mail» then clicking on Preferences.
We will go to the Display tab
We will look for "Swipe left to:" and we will change the option to "Trash" or "Compressed file" depending on the option you want.

Now if we stand in a message any of our mailboxes and we move to the right we will see the option of "Mark as read / unread" and if we move to the left the option of "Trash" or "Compressed file".

This is especially useful when we have a large volume of important emails that we do not want to lose, since we can choose to archive them in a compressed way for further consultation or if, on the contrary, we have a personal account where a lot of Spam enters and we want to eliminate it quickly then it is more advisable to leave Trash as an option.
