Today Chris Lattner, announced publicly that he is leaving the Cupertino company after spending more than a decade in it. Lattner is the Swift project manager, the Swift language was presented at the WWDC in 2014 during 2015, it became open source and boasts of being a safe, fast and concise language. Little by little it has been improved with some update and it is certain that it will continue to be improved in the coming years despite the departure of Lattner, the person in charge of leading this project since its inception.
These improvements in Swift are now in the hands of Ted Kremenek, the person in charge of directing the project from this moment on. Lattner himself has been in charge of passing the baton to Kremenek in a message in which he explains that he will continue as project manager until the end of this month of January and that then Kremenek will be in charge of collecting the baton and continuing to improve Swift. He also explains that it has not been an easy decision to make since it has been many years in the company and with this project, but it needs a change of scene.
Swift 4 is currently in development and Lattner himself adds that more details about the new features implemented in Swift will be known at the next global developer conference in June. Before but we will see official Swift 3.1 with some improvements to the core programming language, improvements in Swift Package Manager, Swift on Linux, compiler and standard library.
Just when it is just over a year after the official launch of this programming language, its chief executive announces his departure.
