Configuring the folders that appear in the macOS Dock

Many have been the occasions in which colleagues have entrusted me to do the first boot of their new Macs in terms of general system configuration as well as the first applications they need to be able to work with the computer as that they are learning the new modes of operation.

One of the things that only manages is the Finder Dock and that is that, as you may already know, when you start a Mac for the first time, the Dock comes loaded with applications that in most cases we do not use and we can delete from the Dock.

The Dock is the area of the system where we must locate both the most used applications and the folders that represent the locations of the most important file structure. When I configure the Dock what I do is delete the applications that are not normally used daily and leave the icon available Safari, Mail, Contacts, Photos, and System Preferences.

If you look at the Dock you will also have noticed that it is divided into two parts, one in which the Finder icons appear and the ones you add and the other in which the Recycle bin and Documents folder. Well, with regard to the latter, I also make some changes and that is that the two locations that a user is going to use daily is that of Documents and Downloads. For this reason, I always place an access to the Downloads folder in the Dock and to do so, just open a Finder window and in the left sidebar, go to Downloads and right-click to indicate Add to Dock.

Finally, I make sure that in the visualization of these two folders it is selected that they are shown as a folder and that the content is shown in the form of a grid. To do this, we right click on each of the folders and select the two options.

All I have commented on is what I do on the computers of newcomers to the Mac world and it is in this way that they get a better understanding of how it works and not go crazy with the locations of things. And how do you configure everything?
