Apple's new patent shows us Conformable, wearable displays for clothing

Flexible microled displays

From the specialized medium patentlyapple We get the information about the most recent patent that Apple has registered in the US Patent and Trademark Office and that today has been published: the new Conformable wearable displays.

This new patent reveals the work that since LuxVue, company acquired by Apple in May 2014, is being carried out on these flexible devices that could change the course of the new design lines of technological products.

After the takeover of the company LuxVue by Apple, those of Cupertino have inherited 21 patents. Conformable was presented just a few months after this union with the approval of the equity partner John Doerr, founder of Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, who spoke of the device as'a great technological advance in screens«.

This patent develops flexible screens that could be applied to devices such as bracelets, bracelets and Apple Watch, and even to normal clothing fabrics. The technology that enables the development and operation of Conformable is based on micro-LED screens, that are already known for their possible application in future VR headsets.

The Conformable Patent

According to Apple, these screens could be applied in a wide variety of electronic devices such as roll-up screens and portable screens. The great flexibility of the Conformable screens is due to the plastic or thin glass used for its construction, which forms a flexible substrate on which the low temperature transistors.

In image 19 of the patent we can see the electronic package integrated into a t-shirt. In this case, it is a patch that could be sewn with textile material to the garment itself, while in Figures 20.A and 20.B it appears applied in a bracelet or bracelet.

Formable could include flexible surfaces that would allow various customization options of these devices, the change of design and color schemes. In addition, it could be adapted to other uses, such as wrappers and packaging materials, so its usability would be open to a large number of applications.
