Control used disk space with Disk Inventory X

Yesterday while organizing a series of files on the iMac I left loading the backup with Time Machine on the MacBook, which is my surprise that when I went to look after a while I found that said copy has given an error due to lack of space in the partition that I have assigned for this purpose on my external disk. My surprised face when I saw it was capitalized since at no time had I saved files of such a size, that Time Machine would return errors in said copy.

At the same time I started looking for the root of the disk, in my case Macintosh HD, any trace of files that could occupy so much, so I started looking at the menu > About this Mac> More info> Storage to check in which type of files I was 'leaking' so much space.

With this I did not reach any conclusion since it marked the occupied space as 'Others'. In the end searching in various forums I found a small application as an open source project called Disk Inventory X that finally managed to locate where so much space was going.

When executing the application we will simply see a small graphical interface with the disks connected to the system, where we can open one of the volumes so that Disk Inventory X starts to index all the content and show us in a hierarchical way each and every one of the files and folders that the volume contains. Once opened with a quick glance we can separate the 'large' files from the smaller ones and therefore organize, delete or manage the files that we want.

Apart from this, by means of a color code we can also differentiate which application is the one that is taking up the most space with their related files and how they are distributed. In short, it is a free and quite successful tool that will get you out of some trouble from time to time, just as it has happened to me.
