Apple is trying to differentiate its products a little more with each update, since the iPad was born as a large iPhone in which you could do practically the same thing, but the truth is that it has incredible potential. Therefore, today we will talk about what I have noticed different in the first public beta of iOS 10 between both devices and the functions that the company presented to us.
The first thing to do is bear in mind that iPhone is a device to carry at all times, with which to communicate, consult information on the Internet, check mail, etc. On the other hand, the iPad, although it has the same system, is more comfortable to work with at the level of editing documents, drawing (in the case of the iPad Pro that have Apple Pencil), watching videos, reading and much more. They are similar, but users do not do the same with them.
iPad, too Pro for iOS 10
Regarding the iPad Pro I have to say that taking into account its power and battery, perhaps they should design a totally different operating system instead of iOS 10, or at least provide it with new features and functions so that it can replace a PC, which is what that we were promised a year ago and we are almost close to a new one iPad Pro renewal 12,9 inches. At WWDC we were disappointed When introducing iOS 10 they did not introduce anything new for the apple tablet, except for that detail of opening two tabs at the same time in Safari, a function that we have not seen in the beta yet.
The main differences that I have noticed have been the bugs and the jerks that the system gave in the iPad, where there is still a lot to improve. On the other hand, on the iPhone I am sure that it works much better and more fluid, although when opening the multitasking it can get stuck often. Then we have the functions with 3D Touch, exclusive to the iPhone 6s and 6s plus, something that we do not believe will reach the range of tablets, since they have not yet implemented that technology, but have replaced it with that of the Apple Pencil.
What's new in iOS 10 that makes a difference
The lock screen has been one of the big changes that iOS 10 brings us and probably the one that we are going to notice the most along with the new completely redesigned Control Center. This lock screen will not be unlocked by sliding, but by pressing the home button and entering the fingerprint or password. If we slide to the left the camera opens, and if we slide it to the right the widget. So far it is the same on the iPad and the iPhone, but in the first there are two widget columns, which allows them to be arranged much better for when we put it horizontally. In iOS 9 it was also there but it was not used as now.
We will see the same widget if in the applications menu we slide to the screen on the left, where they appear together with the search engine, Siri suggestions etc. The interface of the music app adapts to the size of the iPad when it is horizontal, being like in two windows at the same time. On the right the song that is playing opens and while we continue to see our albums and lists on the left. It is similar to what happens in the Mail app with the 12,9 iPad Pro, that you can enter the mail and the columns on the left remain, since there is plenty of size to avoid having to hide them and facilitate the navigation.
iOS 10 is ideal, but for the iPhone
I insist that this system works much better than the previous ones despite being still a beta. It speeds up processes and animations, which was very good, but they are all improvements for iPhone. The iPad has been left in the background, and although it also updates and changes everything, it does not present anything unique or new. They want to convince us to renew the iPad but they do not give us compelling reasons to do so. Currently, if you are not going to buy a keyboard with a Smart Connector or do not want to use the Apple Pencil and prefer the classic size of 9,7 inches, you should buy the iPad Air 2. In operating system and power it is practically the same as the Pro of the same size, and you save more than € 200. You will have all the good of iOS 10 and an iPad, but at a more justified price.
In conclusion, that there is no difference between both devices with this new version. The only thing is the use that we give it and the functions that iOS 9 brought, such as the multiscreen, the Slide Over and the possibility of putting videos in the background while we work and moving them around the screen. Apple must have put in some new function like you are, but it is seen that they are waiting for the renewal of the iPad or they will want to take it easy to get it right. I do not know, but until the iPad Pro are not more different with the iPhone, I do not plan to renew. I have the Air 2 and I work with it beautifully, even though it can't completely replace my Mac.
