Activate dark mode in OS X Yosemite with a keyboard shortcut

Dark Mode is one of the most prominent features in the latest version of OS X 10.10, as it allows you to add a dark tone to both the Mac's dock and menu bar. This option depends on taste and was created with the idea in mind to achieve distract the user as little as possibleIn other words, depending on the characteristics of the place where the equipment is located, light conditions and subjective perception of the user, this "dark mode" may be more successful than the standard theme.

The way to activate the dark mode that most of us already know, involves having to open System Preferences> General and click on the option to enable dark mode. But wouldn't it be better if it could be changed to dark mode with a simple keyboard shortcut? For my part, I have always found it more convenient to access the different options of the system through these shortcuts.

To enable this keyboard shortcut that activates the dark mode we will follow the following steps:

We will go up Applications> Utilities> TerminalOnce the system terminal is open, we copy the following command and paste it directly into the console as shown in the image above:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist _HIEnableThemeSwitchHotKey -bool true

We press Enter and we will introduce the administrator password to confirm the command. Now it will only be necessary to restart the Mac or exit the session to immediately log back in and thus make it work.

In this simple way we will always have the keyboard shortcut ready to activate the dark mode simply by pressing »Control + Option + Command + T« or also by pressing it again to deactivate it.

If, on the other hand, we do not want to have this keyboard shortcut enabled any longer, we will simply change the end of the command from "true" to "false", leaving it as follows:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist _HIEnableThemeSwitchHotKey -bool false

Of course nothing happens because if you open for example "Show keyboard viewer" you will see that with just the option key, the letters do not appear anymore but other symbols, so what this post comments does not work, at least you have the keyboard configured in some other way and does not comment on it.

If it works, you just have to leave the session and come back for it to work for you

Indeed, you will have to restart your Mac or log back into the session for it to work. Sorry I didn't specify, I missed it. It is already corrected.
Thank you all for the warning.
