Exclusive license extension with Liquidmetal until 2016

Liquidmetal

De Apple renewed its license for exclusive use of amorphous alloy technology Liquidmetal in consumer products by one more year, according to a statement on the US Securities and Exchange on Tuesday.

Liquidmetal y vitreloy are the trade names for a series of amorphous metal alloys developed by a research team at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and marketed by Liquidmetal Technologies. Liquidmetal alloys combine a number of attractive characteristics, including a high breaking stress, excellent resistance to corrosion, very high coefficient of restitution and excellent wear resistance, while it can be formed by heat using processes similar to thermoplastics. Despite its name, at room temperature they are not liquid.

According to Liquidmetal Technologies, which has written to its website regarding the company's investor relations, it indicates that Apple reached an agreement to extend the rights to the material on Junio 17. Therefore, the effective date have been extended from February 05, 2015 to February 05, 2016. This extension of the licensing is the third that Apple does with Liquidmetal, that they have maintained these exclusive rights to said material since 2010.

Rumor has it that the only product that Apple has implemented with this material has been the small SIM eject tool, which was introduced in the iPhone 3G (photograph above), but I think it's a rumor. In 2014, the Senior Vice President of Design, Jony Ivesaid the company was working to incorporate new materials. With the introduction of the Apple Watch, however, it is likely that Jony Ive was referring to the introduction of the 18 karat gold, sapphire and ceramic.

Liquidmetal, a trade name for a class of amorphous, non-crystalline material, has attractive properties for manufacturers of electronic devices. For example, the material is 2,5 times stronger than titanium, and 1,5 times harder than stainless steel commonly used in consumer products.

the truth is I don't know why so much searching for materials, if in the end what they want is for you to change equipment as quickly as possible, sell more, they finally achieve it because they leave you out of the game the operating systems that are being left behind ... (and not Tell me that there is no economic capacity to keep them current and at their level ... how many computers do we have on file there because they are no longer useful even to see the mail! ... in the end instead of stronger materials they would have to make them from biodegradable materials!
