Once again Apple offers us an update for one of its computers, this time it was the turn of the latest iMac with a firmware update for the SMC related to the Power Nap function in Mavericks, which everything was not going well that would be expected from the beginning.
Recall that this unique feature of OS X that was already integrated into the MacBook in Mountain Lion has finally been ported to the desktop in this latest version of the operating system. It basically consists in that when the equipment in question goes into suspension, notifications, email ... can continue to be received without problem so that when it is reactivated we have everything instantly updated without penalizing battery consumption.
This update can only be installed on those computers that only and exclusively make use of flash storageIn other words, if your iMac has a Fusion Drive or only has the traditional mechanical hard drive, its installation is not necessary.
The problem seems to be that the process behind this function caused the system to heat up a little more than it should and that the computer fan jumped without apparent need, so now with this update they have managed to perform the same task but in a much more silent way.
So you can find this new version of the fimware as an update from the Mac App Store or by downloading it from this link.
