Five little tricks to avoid Wi-Fi connectivity problems within OS X

Viewing the problems of quite a few users with Wi-Fi connectivity within OS X Yosemite And having already published an article in reference to this problem, I have decided to compile some small tricks to ensure that we can at least avoid these problems as much as possible.

Often a software problem It is given because the group of developers have not taken into account certain scenarios of different configurations on the computer so that the same Mac model can have a good Wi-Fi connection in one session and in another one of another user have drops, not work or do it irregularly. Let's see how to avoid these annoying situations with a few little tricks.

  1. Restart / Reset Router Settings:
Although normally this is not usually effective, it is likely that the problem lies in the configuration of our router or simply that it has hung up and cannot manage our network connections, for this reason the first step should be to restart it or even reset the settings if we are sure that the problem is located in the router.
  2. Use alternate DNS server addresses:This is not a solution as such but rather an extra that we can configure in case at a certain moment our ISP may have an incidence on these servers and do not allow us to navigate.
For this we will have to go to System Preferences> Network> Advanced> DNS and we will add those that Google offers us, for example:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
  3. Configure IPv6 in Link-local mode:Most TCP connections still use the IPv4 protocol, so you can try to limit new IPv6 connections within the local network by setting it as link-local only. To do this, in the same network configuration panel, we will go to the TCP / IP tab and then select "Only local link".

  4. Create a new network locationAutomatic modes are usually not very effective and often give more problems than solutions. For this reason it is more advisable to create a new network location for each of the places where we are going to connect with its personalized configuration. The steps to follow are:

    Go to network system preferences
Open the Location drop-down at the top and click on Edit Locations
Click the + sign to add a new location.
We will click on accept and configure the connection.

  5. Clear Network presets:Finally, we would only have to delete from the system any trace of network settings that we have configured, eliminating the files contained in the following location:
    Library> Preferences> SystemConfiguration

Besides the files we will also delete the folder called CaptiveNetworkSupport. The specific files are:

    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.captive.probe.plist
    com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist
    com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
    NetworkInterfaces. plist
    preferences. plist
