Fix slow opening of your folders in OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

Slow-opening-folders-0

Since OS X Yosemite saw the light a few months ago, many users have been experiencing performance problems with their computers while others saw their Wi-Fi connection not working properly. The launch of version 10.10.3 It was the definitive solution to these problems, but as always, some are fixed and others appear.

Now we know that there is already a large group of users who seem to have been affected by another strange bug, this refers to the opening of folders being incredibly slow, that is, in many cases we will have to wait quite a few seconds before we can access your content. The same happens when activating any auxiliary Open or Save menu, something that makes the use of the system unsatisfactory, let's see how to fix it.

Slow-opening-folders-1

Unlike other bugs, this one is not particularly CPU intensive it just makes the system becomes unusually slow when loading previews of folders slowing down their opening. The daemon to blame for this failure is cloudd, which is associated with a set of metadata that may have been corrupted belonging to CloudKit.

At this point it is recommended to save a backup with TimeMachine as a precaution since we will delete system files. From the Finder we will press CMD + Shift + G to open a path box «Go to the folder» and we will introduce this path:

~ / Library / Caches / CloudKit /

Here we will see three files: CloudKitMetadata, CloudKitMetadata-SHM, CloudKitMetadata-wal. We will select them and leave them in the recycle bin.

Slow-opening-folders-2

Now the next step is to go to Applications> Utilities to start the activity monitor, locate the cloudd process and force restart it. We can also do it through the terminal by entering:

rm ~ / Library / Caches / CloudKit / CloudKitMetadata *; killall cloudd

With this we should have fixed the slowness error trusting that it is an isolated error and that other errors do not arise that give us more headaches.

Thanks! I did this and it helped me! What should I do with the three files that I deleted? Do I delete them forever?

Indeed, you can remove them if you want since they should regenerate.

Greetings. I have had problems with my mac since I installed that latest version. Is it normal for my computer to last up to 15 seconds from the initial sound until the apple logo appears ?! Can you correct it? Thanks in advance

Thanks! I hope it works. In my case the CPU freaks out up to 85% usage, but not showing any apps that are causing it. It also ruined my startup, since from login it can take up to 3 clock minutes. Any solution for this?

Hello ! I have the same problem but with the new OS EL CAPITAN! It's fast in some ways but it does the opposite effect on the desktop. I need help! I have a 15 ″ MacBook Pro which I bought three years ago. Opening folders has become a nuisance and what should be an advantage; speed "I don't see it" HAS BECOME a nightmare, it is possible that for the USA or Europe it is working. But I don't know in Latin America? I have a good 5G internet download speed, which is quite fast for the country where I live, so I don't know exactly what is happening?

Hello, I have this problem, only that nothing else happens to me with the folders when I click on any program, folder, in finder windows or simply by moving the cursor, the damn rainbow beach ball takes about 10 minutes to open any program , files or browser and about 2 minutes to open folders I have no problems with starting everything is fine in that aspect but I already tried everything to repair and verify the disk in utilities, clear the desktop, start the computer in safe mode, I honestly no longer know What to do if anyone has any suggestions or solutions I would appreciate it, it is mac book pro 2010, OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 with 4GB

Hello, I have a similar problem, a few days ago I restored my MacBook Pro mid 2012 with the new operating system OS X the captain, unfortunately my machine got too slow, I am used to it being fast and powerful, searching in Spotlight became a nightmare, saving pdfs the same, I dedicate myself to audiovisual arts and when using the adobe suite I wanted to throw my machine away, when saving a document in Illustrator it took more than a minute to save it and so continuously, I have had enough and went back to install OS X yosemite on my computer, I hope that if the same thing happened to me, he would let me know if he could repair it and explain to me how to do it, meanwhile I will continue using Yosemite because it swims very well. Is it necessary to update to the new operating system? I don't feel a big difference, quite the opposite.
    Greetings.
